How do I transfer money from PayPal to mobile in Uganda?

If you’re wondering how to withdraw money from PayPal to your Mobile money in Uganda and in other restricted African countries, here’s a guide;

This guide is tailored to individuals grappling with the challenges of using PayPal in regions marked by restrictions, particularly in Africa. Countries such as Uganda, Rwanda, Tanzania, Malawi, Zambia, Niger, Madagascar, Burundi, Somalia, and others face unique hurdles when it comes to PayPal transactions. For users in these regions seeking viable solutions, the following steps offer a nuanced approach to circumvent limitations and facilitate seamless financial transactions.

Firstly, ensure that your PayPal account is set up to receive funds. Standard Uganda PayPal accounts can’t receive money, so you need to configure your account accordingly. If you haven’t done this yet, we can guide you on setting it up though we do charge a  small consultancy fee.

Assuming you now have an account that can receive funds, you have three options to withdraw or transfer money:

Option 1: Sell Your PayPal Funds

You can sell your PayPal money (in US Dollars) to individuals or services that buy PayPal funds. They will then provide you with cash or mobile money. Since Uganda cannot receive directly from PayPal, this method involves exchanging your PayPal funds for mobile money.

Rates vary depending on the service or individual you choose. At Webvator, you can check the rates at http://paypalcash.webvator.com.

Option 2: Use a Kenya Safaricom Line with Mpesa

1. Acquire a Kenyan Safaricom line and activate Mpesa.
2. Connect your PayPal account to Mpesa via this link: https://www.paypal-mobilemoney.com/m-pesa.

After transferring your money from PayPal to Mpesa in Kenya, you can then send it from Mpesa to your Uganda Mobile money (MTN or Airtel Mobile money).

To obtain an Mpesa line (Safaricom), you might need to visit Kenya. If you prefer not to enter Kenya, you can go to the border of Uganda and Kenya and purchase one from Safaricom agents.

Note: The Mpesa line must be registered in your name, as you can’t use someone else’s Safaricom line on PayPal. The names on your PayPal account must match the names on your Safaricom line, or else PayPal won’t connect with your line.

Option 3: Transfer Funds to a Relative in a PayPal-Supported Country

Consider sending your PayPal funds to a relative residing in a country supported by PayPal, such as the USA. This option involves having your relative send you the equivalent amount using alternative methods like WorldRemit, Western Union, Sendwave, etc.

This approach is particularly advantageous for individuals with relatives living abroad. By leveraging this method, you can effectively navigate the limitations of PayPal transactions in certain regions, allowing your relative in a supported country to facilitate the transfer using accessible and widely accepted platforms. It’s a collaborative solution that capitalizes on the capabilities of PayPal in countries where it operates seamlessly, ensuring a smoother and more versatile transfer process.

Option 4: Use a virtual USA credit card

Using a virtual USA credit card to withdraw funds from PayPal and send money to restricted countries involves a few steps.  Here’s a general guide:

### Steps to Use a Virtual USA Credit Card for PayPal Withdrawals and Transfers:

4. **Withdraw Funds to Virtual Card:**
– Once your virtual card is linked and verified, you can initiate a withdrawal from your PayPal account to the virtual card. Go to “Withdraw Money” and follow the prompts.

5. **Check Withdrawal Limits:**
– Be aware of any withdrawal limits imposed by PayPal and your virtual card provider. Ensure your transactions stay within these limits.

6. **Receive Funds on Virtual Card:**
– After the withdrawal is completed, the funds should be reflected in the balance of your virtual card.

7. **Transfer Funds to Restricted Country:**
– Research and use a secure and legal method to transfer funds from your virtual card to the restricted country. This could involve using international money transfer services, remittance platforms, or other financial services.
