What Are Roblox “Trusted Connections”?
Roblox introduced Trusted Connections as an upgraded tier of the standard player connection system. While standard Connections function like a basic friends list, Trusted Connections require mutual opt-in and strict age verification.
Establishing a Trusted Connection verifies real-life familiarity and unlocks enhanced communication features while maintaining platform safety monitoring.
Unlocked Features for Trusted Connections:
-
Party Voice & Unfiltered Chat: Enables lower-restriction text chat and direct voice communication within private parties for eligible users (13+).
-
Studio Team Create Access: Grants seamless collaboration permissions in Roblox Studio without needing project-by-project access workarounds.
-
Custom Privacy Settings: Allows players to restrict experience access, online status visibility, and inventory viewing to trusted users only.
Prerequisites & Safety Rules
-
Age Verification / Estimation: Both players must complete Roblox’s age check process (via facial age estimation or ID verification) to unlock the feature.
-
Under 13 Accounts: Users under 13 require parent/guardian approval for every trusted connection request. Requests send an automated email to linked parent accounts for explicit permission.
-
Teens (13–17) and Adults (18+): To prevent unwanted adult-to-minor interactions, adults cannot add teens via public profile search. Cross-age trusted connections strictly require real-life verification methods (such as live QR scanning or phone contact importing).
Step-by-Step: How to Add a Trusted Connection
-
Method 1: Live QR Code Scanning (Real-Life Verification)
-
Open the Roblox Mobile App or Desktop Client.
-
Tap the Add Friends (+) icon on the Home screen and select My QR.
-
Have your friend open their camera or the Roblox in-app scanner to scan your QR code live on screen.
-
Note: Scanning a screenshot will only create a standard connection—live scanning is required to upgrade to a Trusted Connection automatically.
-
-
Method 2: Contact Importer (Mobile)
-
Open the Roblox Mobile App and navigate to Add Friends (+) > Contacts.
-
Grant Roblox access to your device contacts.
-
Select eligible friends from your contact list to send a Trusted Connection request.
-
-
Method 3: Direct Profile Upgrade (Ages 16+ or Same-Age Groups)
-
Go to the user’s Roblox profile page.
-
Click the Three Dots (…) menu next to their username.
-
Select Add Trusted Friend / Trusted Connection.
-
Once the receiver accepts the notification, the badge updates on both profiles.
-
-
Method 4: Invite Links (Age-Checked 13+ Users)
-
Open your friend’s profile page and select the Three Dots (…) menu.
-
Tap Add via Link to generate a single-use connection URL.
-
Send the link via SMS or external messaging apps (links expire after 30 days).
-
Managing and Removing Trusted Connections
-
Checking Status: Look for the Trusted Badge indicator next to your friend’s name in your main list, experience chat, or party overlay.
-
Downgrading Status: If you want to downgrade a user back to a standard Connection without blocking them, visit their profile, click the Three Dots (…) menu, and select Remove Trusted Connection.
-
Safety Monitoring: All conversations—even among Trusted Connections—remain covered by automated platform monitoring to guard against critical harm and violations of Roblox Community Standards.
