Riot Vanguard triggers the “Incompatible Software Component Detected” error when it identifies a running background program, overlay, or third-party driver that violates kernel security policies or contains known vulnerabilities.
Step 1: Close Blacklisted Apps and Overlays
-
Terminate memory and debugging utilities like Process Hacker, Cheat Engine, or x64dbg.
-
Disable system injectors and visual mods such as MacType, ReShade, or custom mouse-mapping tools.
-
Exit background overlay apps, including RivaTuner Statistics Server (RTSS), Overwolf, and EVGA Precision X.
Step 2: Update or Uninstall RGB Utilities
Outdated motherboard and RGB controller drivers (such as ene.sys or legacy CPU-Z/HWMonitor driver hooks) are frequent targets of Vanguard flags.
-
Update ASUS Armoury Crate, MSI Center, Gigabyte Control Center, and Corsair iCUE to their latest software versions.
-
If updates do not clear the flag, temporarily uninstall your RGB lighting software.
Step 3: Clean Boot Windows
-
Press Win + R, type
msconfig, and press Enter. -
Open the Services tab, check Hide all Microsoft services, and click Disable all.
-
Locate vgc (the Riot Vanguard service) in the remaining list and re-check its box so it stays active.
-
Navigate to the Startup tab via Task Manager, disable non-essential startup items, and restart your computer.
Step 4: Reinstall Riot Vanguard
-
Right-click the Vanguard icon in your system tray and select Exit Vanguard.
-
Open Windows Settings > Apps > Installed Apps.
-
Search for Riot Vanguard and click Uninstall.
-
Restart your computer, launch the Riot Client, and start Valorant to automatically download and re-install Vanguard.
If the error continues after these steps, open Command Prompt as Administrator and run sfc /scannow to fix any corrupted Windows system files interfering with Vanguard’s signature checks.
