If you’re a content creator who just got monetized on Facebook, YouTube, or other platforms, one of the most important steps to start receiving your payments is setting up your payout details and submitting your tax information. Many new creators face issues with this process, especially when filling out the W-8BEN form.

In this guide, I’ll walk you through everything step-by-step — from entering your personal details to linking your bank account and submitting tax information — so you can avoid mistakes and get paid smoothly.

Why Do You Need to Fill Out the W-8BEN Form?

The W-8BEN (Certificate of Foreign Status of Beneficial Owner for United States Tax Withholding) is required for non-US creators who earn income from US companies like Meta (Facebook/Instagram), YouTube, or TikTok.

By filling this out, you:

  • Confirm you are not a US resident.

  • Provide your Tax Identification Number (TIN).

  • Ensure that taxes are correctly withheld (and avoid unnecessary penalties).

  • Get your payments released without delays.

Without this, your earnings will remain on hold.

Step 1: Access the Payout Setup

Once your account is eligible for monetization (Stars, Reels Ads, In-stream Ads, or Bonus Program), you’ll see a prompt:

👉 “Set up your payout account”

Click this to begin the 5-step setup.

Step 2: Enter Personal Information

You will need to fill in:

  • Legal Name (must match your government ID)

  • Date of Birth

  • Country of Residence (important: choose the country where you currently live)

⚠️ Common Mistake: Don’t confuse your location. If you live in the Philippines but hold a US ID, select the country where you actually reside for tax purposes.

Step 3: Choose Business Type

  • For most creators, select Individual / Sole Proprietor.

  • Do not choose “Non-Profit” unless you are officially registered as one.

  • Corporations or partnerships should only be chosen if you have the legal documents to prove it.

Choosing the wrong business type may delay your payout.

Step 4: Add Contact & Tax Information

You will need:

  • Postal Address

  • Active Phone Number (important for receiving OTP codes)

  • Email Address

  • Tax Identification Number (TIN)

💡 Tip: If you don’t have a TIN yet, apply online through your country’s tax authority (in the Philippines, BIR). It’s faster now and often issued within 1–2 days.

Make sure to enter your TIN without spaces or extra characters.

Step 5: Link Your Bank Account

You’ll now need to connect your bank for payouts. Depending on your country, available banks will show in the dropdown (e.g., Metrobank in the Philippines).

Steps:

  1. Click Link Payout Method.

  2. Select your bank.

  3. Approve the connection (you may need to confirm via SMS or another device).

Step 6: Tax Information (W-8BEN Form)

Here comes the most crucial part.

You’ll be asked to confirm:

  1. US Status → If you’re not a US citizen or resident, select No.

  2. Are you an intermediary/agent? → If you’re a minor or don’t have a bank, a parent/guardian can act on your behalf. Otherwise, choose No.

  3. Full Name & Country of Citizenship.

  4. Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN) → Enter the same number you added earlier.

  5. Address → Fill in your complete address in English characters only.

Step 7: Service Location Details

You will be asked where your work (services) are performed:

  • If you create videos/content entirely outside the US, select 0% performed in the US.

  • If you sometimes work in the US, select the option for both inside and outside.

Step 8: Electronic Signature

Finally, you must provide an e-signature:

  • Type your full legal name.

  • Tick the box to confirm you have the authority to sign.

  • The system will auto-detect the date.

Step 9: Review and Submit

Before submitting, review:

  • Name

  • Address

  • TIN

  • Bank details

If all looks correct, click Submit.

You may receive a copy of your W-8BEN form electronically. If you prefer not to receive physical documents, select “I want paperless delivery.”

How to Check if Your Setup Was Successful

  1. Go to Professional Dashboard on Facebook (or YouTube Studio > Monetization > Payouts).

  2. Click Payouts.

  3. Check that your bank details and tax form are listed as Active.

If everything is correct, congratulations 🎉 — your payouts are ready!

Final Tips

  • Always double-check your TIN and legal name. Mistakes here can hold your money for months.

  • Use an active email and phone number — these are required for verification and receiving remittance notices.

  • If under 18, you may need a parent/guardian to act as your payout intermediary.

  • If you update your bank or tax details later, remember to re-verify everything.

✅ Setting up your payout and W-8BEN form correctly is the key to getting paid on time as a creator. Many first-timers make small errors that delay their earnings, but by following this guide, you’ll avoid the usual pitfalls.
