When your Twitter account gets suspended, its quite sad thinking of all the efforts and time, your followers and all tweets gone. This happened to me 3 days ago and am going to share mistakes i might have made which caused it, efforts have done to recover my suspended Twitter account.
I started my twitter account back in September 2021, this was my other account to handle different purposes since i didn’t want to use my main account,i prefer my main account to focus on a specific group of people, so my other account was created to attract any audience i could find online.
However, this Wednesday (April 27), Twitter suspended my account and I’ve not been able to get it back, even after appealing. In this post, I’m describing what may have happened, how appealing to a suspension works and some thoughts on my current situation. i believe what i may share might help someone to act in a different way or help you to avoid mistakes i did.
What may have caused this twitter suspension?
Based on the timing of my suspension, there’s only one thing I can think of that may have triggered this. That morning, i shared youtube channel link on several accounts of people from different countries, i did a twitter search of “subscribers” and also “YouTubers” and i kept on posting my channel links on tweets i found with that keyword with a words asking anyone to give me a subscription. i have a YouTube channel for a friend am trying to promote and i kind of thought i could achieve my goal though sharing YouTube channel on YouTubers on twitter and also got an auto responding service to reply to each follower i got.
[ 4pm, 27–04–2022.]. i realized the account could not do anything except logging in.
Immediately i went to https://help.twitter.com/en/forms
This is where you can make an Appeal concerning locked or suspended accounts, problems with account access, etc.
I selected locked and suspended account issues as shown below; and filled in the fields.
Immediately after filling in the appeal form, i got a message on email from twitter to confirm if i can receive email so that they proceed with reviewing the information i provided and will respond as soon as possible., i confirmed that yes i can.
[ 2pm, 28–04–2022.] The following day i got message telling me;
your account has been suspended––and will remain suspended––due to multiple or repeat violations of our rules.
With such a message, its hard to re-appeal, since in email they tell you any replies or new appeals wont be considered.
When i looked at the behaviors twitter considers to suspend someone, i realized mistakes i had been making on twitter without knowing. i was sad but i think this helped me to avoid doing same mistakes on over 20 twitter accounts of clients am working on.
Let me explain briefly on each behavior;
-
Creating serial and/or multiple accounts with overlapping uses
-
Evading a permanent suspension by creating or using another account
-
Cross-posting Tweets or links across multiple accounts
-
Aggressive following, particularly through automated means
A.Creating serial and/or multiple accounts with overlapping uses
This means don’t repeatedly post duplicate content to one or multiple accounts you run, don’t schedule/recycle the same tweet to go out hours or days apart.
In my scenario i could have been guilty here because i shared my YouTube channel link but with same text /caption.
it would have been different if maybe i shared YouTube link but with different caption.
if your doing this, your on a time bomb
Its fine to have multiple accounts, because most people have backup accounts, but problem comes if content is overlapping, content is same and your syndicating the information between your accounts., if it used to be fine, its no longer fine. u might do it 1or 2 times, just know your playing with fire.
If you do want to share the same post across multiple profiles or to repeat it on your own profile, Twitter recommends that you retweet your original post.
Buuuuut… not too much ? , because ? if anything looks too aggressive on twitter, you get banned
And it’s up to Twitter to decide whether what you are doing is aggressive or not.
My friend twitter account got banned i remember within an hour of its creation for that very reason: he engaged with (liked, @mentioned) and retweeted too many posts within that hour. he was just trying to make his account look busy since it was new. so aggressive is abit hard to define when it comes to twitter rules, it kind of changes for almost every person. what is aggressive to me might be not aggressive to another on twitter
B.Evading a permanent suspension by creating or using another account
This is reason President Trump can’t have another account because he’s already suspended, u can of-course create another account but make sure you don’t sound like the old you who was banned. This is something possible to a common people but to a president its hard. If your to create another account, make sure you use different names and if u have a website link, am not sure if u should put it there on profile since old you had that same link. but some factors are minor
C.Cross-posting Tweets or links across multiple accounts
What is cross-posting?
Cross-posting is the process of posting similar content across multiple social media channels. Social media managers use the tactic to help save time and resources. No more crafting a unique social media update for each channel every time you need to post.
This have talked about it in point number one of having multiple accounts with overlapping uses.
You may not post duplicative or substantially similar Tweets on one account or over multiple accounts you operate.
So, whether you used to:
…it’s now against Twitter rules.
This one definitely hit HARD.
D. Aggressive following, particularly through automated means
Do you want to talk to Twitter, below is Twitter telephone contact
Twitter Phone Number
Call Twitter customer service OR twitter customer service phone number usa
415-222-9670
Twitter support live chat
And they ‘aren’t there to getcha…‘
Should they feel that your otherwise healthy Twitter account is getting into a bit of trouble with Twitter rules, they won’t just ban you, I promise.
They’ll try to warn you first (most often, send you an email notification), Twitter can;
Twitter Might Make Your Tweets and/or Account Less Visible
Twitter Might Make You Verify Your Account
Twitter Might Place an Account in Read-Only Mode
Twitter Might Require Tweet Removal
if you believe Twitter made a mistake, you can appeal your account suspension.
If you are lucky (i.e. you have a good explanation of why you’ve screwed up), you’ll get an email like this:
The bad news is if you appeal is denied, your Twitter account suspension becomes permanent.
Twitter will remove your account from global view AND you will not be allowed to create new accounts.
Yes, it’s very sad and very final…
Headsup- Ofcouse you may need to create a new account but u may do so using another Browser or another computer.
As for me, am now using my main twitter account. This is sad but a blessing at same time, would have done same mistake to over 20 accounts of clients am managing, maybe also my main account of webvator of over 11,k followers would have got banned
